BEAUTY: MY 3 NATURAL MUST HAVES

When it comes to beauty, I have never been an expert and have shied away from the whole process due to the sensitive nature of my skin.  But taking a few tips from my mother, I've decided to broaden my horizons a bit and take the more natural route to beauty and I couldn't be happier with the results! Here are my three favourite all-natural must haves.

Qasil - The Face Masque

A powdered mixture made of leaves from the Gob tree and turmeric, the qasil is essential part of any Somali woman's beauty regime. I typically use this twice a week as a gentle exfoliant for my skin. Living out here in the desert - the heat and pollution takes a real toll on my skin and I tend to look so damn shiny all the time. With qasil, the shine turns in to a healthy glow and my pores have become smaller than ever. For a bit of a kick I add coffee grinds in to the mix as well.

Turmeric - My Tea Saviour

My mother uses turmeric as a base spice in nearly everthing she cooks, so there is always some about the house. But despite making food taste delicious, I also discovered a few super tips about this lovely bright yellow spice. Turmeric is excellent in aiding all kinds of ailments but I found it's best brewed with a your cuppa in the morning to get rid of that nasty cold that's been plaguing you. Add a touch of ginger root, orange and honey and you'll feel like a champion in a matter of days!

Moringa Oleifera - The Healer

Looked upon as natures miracle tree, there is no shortage of moringa powder in our home. It does everything from boosting one's immune system, to managing headaches, anemia, kidney stones, high blood pressure, curing cancer and a slew of other issues as well. Best taken as a tonic, I tend to mix a teeny spoonful in a glass of warm water and chug it. I'm not the biggest fan of it's taste, but I'll pretty much do anything for a kick in my step!

I currently source all of my ingredients from Somaliland, but once I can locate some local stores I will post the details here!
